Back to School Barbie

The character that I have chosen for this DW FDC once again is Barbie –not the high fashion doll but instead a younger going into the sixth grade doll.

Here is her story:
I’m Barbie Roberts and I am looking forward to the first day of school – I’m going to be in the sixth grade. I am so ready to start classes and spend time with my friends, Midge and Ken.  My Mom bought me a new lunch box with a picture of my favorite TV show – Bewitched.  I was chosen to be a school safety patrol! I get to help the younger students cross the streets on the way to school. I have a badge, belt and stop sign.
The only bad thing is that I got glasses over the summer – will my friends make fun of me wearing them?

Barbie’s Back to School Outfit is made using the motto – reduce, reuse and
recycle – utilizing materials that have been given a second chance to
be useful again. I used the skirt fabric from a sparkly pink dress and lounge pants. I bought white socks to remake into doll socks and spray painted silver shoes to get the look I wanted! I also used the internet to find graphics.  The patterns came from American Girl – Molly (blouse) and Sock Monkey’s Business (that’s me!).

I don’t know which part of this challenge I enjoyed the most – thinking about what to make, making it or the photo shoot and editing – I had a great time and hope you enjoy looking at the finished product!

It all started with a sock monkey who needed a Halloween costume.

After making him a costume, I branched out to create custom outfits

for American Girl dolls. I use my sewing, quilting and designing

background to create one-of-a-kind creations for any sized doll - or
